OUR PEOPLE

Sucheta Rose

Sucheta Rose is a highly experienced criminal defence solicitor with over 27 years of legal practice, having qualified in 1997 and obtaining her Higher Rights of Audience in 2007. She is currently a Consultant Solicitor Advocate with IBB Crime with HAL Solicitors, where she focuses exclusively on representing clients at police stations and in court, including Magistrates and Crown Courts.

Sucheta brings a wealth of experience from her years as an in-house solicitor and now concentrates on delivering robust, client-focused advocacy while maintaining a healthy work/life balance. She is known for her strategic thinking, empathetic approach, and highly developed advocacy skills, which she uses to secure the best outcomes for her clients.

She has successfully defended individuals in a wide range of criminal matters — from serious offences such as murder, grievous bodily harm (GBH), drug supply and firearms offences, to less serious summary offences. Her practice spans both legal aid and privately funded cases, and she regularly appears before courts in Berkshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, and Hillingdon.

Notable Cases:

R v A – A high-profile domestic murder case built on hearsay evidence. Sucheta represented the client from the police station through to the Crown Court. The case was ultimately dismissed by the judge, who withdrew it from the jury due to the unreliable nature of the hearsay evidence.

R v W – Following a guilty plea, Sucheta successfully argued exceptional circumstances in a Newton hearing, persuading the Crown Court judge to depart from the mandatory 5-year minimum sentence.

R v M – Persuaded the Crown to offer no evidence in respect of a possession of class A matter, which led to the Crown abandoning an application for a football banning order.

R v M – Client was charged with a racially aggravated public order offence and there was an application for a football banning order. Sucheta cross-examined the prosecution witnesses at trial. Their accounts were found to not be credible compared to that of the client. The client was acquitted, and the application was refused.
